Strategic Outsourcing in Manufacturing

When in-house production is no longer economical

Manufacturing processes can lose their economic viability due to declining production volumes, low utilization, lack of skilled workers, or upcoming replacement investments.

With Service Plus, BURKHARD takes over suitable manufacturing and testing processes and continues them as needed. Including machines and systems upon request.

Declining production volumes increase process costs
If utilization decreases, costs for machines, personnel, space, and maintenance remain, thus increasing unit costs.

Replacement investments are no longer worthwhile
If a system needs to be modernized or replaced, BURKHARD checks whether process takeover is more economical than a new investment.

New products require new manufacturing methods
New components place new demands on processes, systems, and qualifications. With Service Plus, suitable manufacturing steps can be taken over.

You hand over:

  • underutilized manufacturing processes
  • machines and systems
  • manufacturing and testing tasks
  • pre-assembly and inspection processes
  • processes with upcoming investment needs

We take over:

  • manufacturing and testing
  • suitable machines and systems
  • defined process flows
  • quality assurance
  • demand-driven production

You gain:

  • secured parts supply
  • predictable process costs
  • fewer tied-up resources
  • free production capacities
  • reduced investment pressure

Your Added Value

WHAT CHANGES FOR YOUR MANUFACTURING?

Take over manufacturing processes instead of permanently maintaining capacities

Not every manufacturing process needs to permanently take place in your own production. Especially with fluctuating or declining production volumes, personnel, machines, space, and maintenance can cause fixed costs that are spread over fewer and fewer components.

BURKHARD integrates suitable processes into its own manufacturing organization and continues them according to your needs.

This ensures that necessary components remain available, while you can concentrate internal resources on the processes critical to your core business.

IS YOUR IN-HOUSE PRODUCTION STILL WORTH IT?

Are your production volumes declining? Is a machine only partially utilized? Are there a lack of skilled workers or an upcoming replacement investment?

Then we will jointly examine whether BURKHARD can take over your process and continue it economically.

REVIEW PROCESS

Service Plus in Practice

Take over underutilized process. Continue economically.

A long-standing customer operated several in-house component washing systems. However, due to declining production volumes, one of the systems was no longer economically utilized.

BURKHARD took over the system and the associated process. The customer’s components continue to be reliably cleaned. Free capacities can also be used for other customers.

We also take over pre-assembly and inspection processes where external continuation is economically viable.

The result: lower process costs, more efficient utilization, and free capacities for the core business.

3D Component Measurement & Reverse Engineering

From existing component to usable CAD data.

Do you need an existing component but do not have suitable design data?

BURKHARD measures the component three-dimensionally and provides the captured geometry as STEP data for further processing.

Suitable for, among other things:

  • reproduction of existing components
  • dimensional control of complex geometries
  • creation of digital component data
  • recurring inspection tasks

Non-destructive Alloy Analysis with XRF

Determine material without destroying the component.

X-ray fluorescence analysis can qualitatively and quantitatively determine the elemental composition of metallic materials – without destroying the sample.

Suitable for, among other things:

  • material identification
  • mix-up inspections
  • incoming goods inspections
  • quality inspections
  • material analyses

Case Study

PROCESS TAKEOVER IN PRACTICE

When declining production volumes make a process uneconomical

H3: The Initial Situation

Production volume is decreasing. The system is still needed but can no longer be economically utilized.

H3: The Solution

BURKHARD takes over the existing process and – if technically and economically feasible – the associated system.

H3: The Result

The customer retains access to the required service, while internal capacities, costs, and investments can be reduced.

FAQ Service Plus

Frequently Asked Questions about Manufacturing Outsourcing

As part of Service Plus, BURKHARD individually assesses manufacturing, testing, pre-assembly, and inspection processes for a potential takeover. Particularly relevant are processes that can no longer be operated economically in-house or require additional capacities, systems, or skilled workers. Whether a process is suitable is evaluated both technically and economically.

Yes. With Service Plus, in addition to the manufacturing process, existing machines and systems can also be included in the process takeover. How the takeover, ownership, and further use are specifically regulated is clarified on a project-by-project basis.

Outsourcing a manufacturing process can be particularly beneficial with declining production volumes, low system utilization, lack of skilled workers, rising process costs, or excessively high fixed costs.

At the beginning of a project, the existing manufacturing process, requirements, and necessary capacities are jointly reviewed. BURKHARD then assesses the technical and economic feasibility of the process takeover. How machines, systems, and the process are specifically relocated is determined based on the respective project.

Tools, fixtures, and other operating equipment must be considered during a process takeover, depending on the project. Whether existing operating equipment can continue to be used, taken over, or adapted depends on the respective manufacturing process and technical requirements.

The duration of a process relocation depends on the scope and technical requirements of the respective manufacturing process. BURKHARD first evaluates the initial situation and feasibility and can then establish a project-specific timeline for the takeover.

No, personnel takeover is not possible.
