Process Takeover in Manufacturing: When Service Plus Pays Off
“Stagnation means regression,” a quote by Rudolf von Bennigsen-Foerder. This also applies to manufacturing: those who operate processes themselves merely out of habit often pay more. That’s why we are expanding our portfolio with BURKHARD Service Plus.
Briefly Explained: With Service Plus, BURKHARD takes over suitable manufacturing and testing processes and continues them as needed, including machines and facilities if desired. Customers benefit from predictable costs and secured parts supply, gaining capacity for their core business.
When In-House Production Becomes Uneconomical
Not every process needs to run in-house permanently. Typical triggers for a process takeover:
- Decreasing Production Volumes: The costs for machines, personnel, space, and maintenance remain, but are distributed among fewer and fewer components. Unit costs rise.
- Impending Replacement Investments: If equipment needs to be modernized or replaced, we examine whether taking over the process is more economical than a new investment.
- New Products: New components require new procedures, facilities, and qualifications. We can take over suitable manufacturing steps.
- Lack of Skilled Workers: Where personnel are scarce, processes cannot be operated stably.
How Service Plus Works
| You Hand Over | underutilized manufacturing processes, machines and facilities, manufacturing and testing tasks, pre-assembly and inspection processes |
| We Take Over | manufacturing and testing, suitable facilities, defined process flows, quality assurance, demand-driven production |
| You Gain | secured parts supply, predictable process costs, free capacities, fewer tied-up resources, reduced investment pressure |
BURKHARD integrates the process into its own manufacturing organization. This ensures the availability of necessary components, allowing you to concentrate your resources on what is crucial for your core business.
Practical Example: Component Washing System Taken Over
A long-standing customer operated several of their own component washing systems. Due to declining production volumes, one of them was no longer economically utilized. BURKHARD took over the system and the process; the components continue to be reliably cleaned, and we also use the freed-up capacities for other customers. Result: lower process costs, more efficient utilization, and free capacities for the customer. We also take over pre-assembly and inspection processes where external continuation makes sense.
Further Services Related to Service Plus
- 3D Component Measurement & Reverse Engineering: We measure existing components three-dimensionally and provide the geometry as STEP data, for example, for remanufacturing, dimensional control of complex geometries, or recurring testing tasks.
- Non-Destructive Alloy Analysis with XRF: X-ray fluorescence analysis determines the elemental composition of metallic materials qualitatively and quantitatively without destroying the component. It is suitable for material identification, mix-up checks, and incoming goods inspections.
